Troop 431 strives to be the troop of choice for all boys in the East Brainerd Community, offering opportunities for spiritual growth, social development, and personal fulfillment.

About our Troop Meetings:

The troop meets at 6:45 PM every Monday evening in the Jamie Ward Scout Hut located behind Christ United Methodist Church.

Meetings are opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and either the Scout Oath or Scout Law. The Senior Patrol Leader then announces any items that Scouts should be aware of. Periods of recreation and Scout skills are part of every meeting. The Scoutmasters Minute is used to leave the Scouts in a more thoughtful mood following a meeting, drawing on either a Scout Law or other example of good citizenship.

"Class A" uniforms are worn at all Scout functions except during the summer. Class A is required at formal events, such as a Court of Honor or Board of Review. "Class B" uniform is worn during the summer.

Adult leaders are encouraged to wear a Scout Uniform to all Scout functions.

The troop uses the Patrol Method. The troop elects the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL), and the individual patrols elect Patrol Leaders (PL) and Assistant Patrol Leaders (APL).

The Patrol Leaders Council meets periodically to ensure the program is full and meets the needs of the troop members. The membership of this group is the SPL, ASPL, PLs, Chaplain's Aide, and adult leadership.
The PLC develops the annual plan in the early fall, setting target dates and topics for outings, determining monthly programs, and suggesting high adventure activities. The PLC sets the dates for summer camp, and reviews possibilities for summer camp selection.

The troop has an active outdoor program, including camping, hiking, canoeing, white water rafting - just about every conceivable outdoor activity.

As part of personal growth, the Scouts take part in service projects as a routine part of advancement. The troop makes every effort to respond to service requests. Eagle projects and other requested projects are done with enthusiasm and a lot of adult help.

Leadership development is encouraged at every level. This involves the planning, organization, and decision making regarding the troop's activities, from the outdoor program to the subjects for meetings.
